The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York was established in 1906 and is the oldest and largest Norwegian Consulate General in the United States. The office in New York promotes cultural and business exchange between New York and Norway, in addition to providing consular services for 22 states.
 
The Art and Culture Advisor will be part of a small team in support of the Norwegian Government’s diplomatic, cultural, economic and public diplomacy objectives in New York.
 
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Spearheading the Consulate´s projects within the fields of contemporary art, architecture, film and crafts
  • Close dialogue with key organizations in Norway, such as the Office For Contemporary Art Norway, Design and Architecture Norway, Norwegian Film Institute and Norwegian Crafts
  • Continuous contact with leading museums, biennials and festivals in Norway and New York
  • Managing the Consulate´s visitors´ program for curators, art professionals and press
  • Grant management and administration
  • Responsibilities and duties can be changed
 
 
Qualifications
 
  • Relevant work experience in one or more of the above- mentioned subject areas, preferably contemporary art
  • Experience with managing international art projects
  • Experience from working with Norwegian art institutions is desired
  • Good social media and computer skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, both written and oral. Knowledge of Norwegian language is desired
  • Relevant higher education in the field of culture

  • Must enjoy a hectic, varied and social work day
  • Ability to work in teams and to initiate independent projects
